ABOUT ME

Oh, hi there. I’m glad you found me. I’m Lisa Ferguson (she/her), a creative/tech freelancer with a passion for social justice issues, community, and culture.

For more than a decade, I’ve amplified the good work that individuals, organizations, and businesses are doing for people and the planet. Equipped with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communications, I thrived as a freelancer content writer and journalist, writing about social issues and social innovation for NOW Magazine, Torontoist, CityLab, Ms., Spacing, the Toronto Foundation, the Centre for Social Innovation, and others.

In mid-2018, I joined Social Planning Toronto, a nonprofit that uses research, organizing, and advocacy to effect progressive political change at the municipal level. For the next four-and-a-half years, as SPT’s communications coordinator I developed communications meant to inspire action and change.

I couldn’t bear to go back to an office after the pandemic, so I left SPT in January 2023 to make the switch back to freelance work. (Almost six months later, they still haven’t replaced me; they can’t find anyone with my unique skill set of creativity — writing, editing, designing — and tech savvy!)

I’m still offering the same stellar communications skills I always have, just remotely, from afar (current location: beautiful Mexico  🇲🇽 ).

When I’m not working, you’ll find me roller skating, listening to live rock ‘n’ roll, learning to speak español, rescuing street dogs (much to the chagrin of my cat), and travelling as much as I possibly can.

Well, Lisa,…it hasn’t sunk in yet — what it will be like without you. Your tremendous skills, your values, your commitment to excellence — well those were invaluable to us and will be so very much missed. I wish you all the very best and please know you always have a place here at SPT. I have a feeling we will find a way to keep working together!
